Frequently Asked Questions
-
No, you don’t need a referral from a GP to see a dietitian. However, if you are hoping to claim Medicare rebates under a GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement for a chronic health condition, you will need a referral from your GP.
-
An initial consultation is an opportunity to get to know each other better.
We will begin by asking you what your health and wellbeing goals are, what you are hoping to achieve short term and long term whilst working together, followed by a series of questions related to your medical history, your current lifestyle and what a usual week of meals, snacks and drinks looks like for you. You are welcome to ask questions at any point!
From here, we will collaboratively brainstorm a few small, achievable action steps for you to work towards over the next few weeks to get you on your way to improved health and wellbeing before we meet again. -
Medicare rebates are available under a GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement, which offers 5 consultations with a dietitian per calendar year for individuals with chronic conditions (such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, kidney disease and musculoskeletal conditions). You must be managed and referred by your doctor, with accompanying referral forms to receive a rebate. The Medicare rebate is $58 per consultation.
Initial consultation gap fee = $92
Review consultation gap fee = $32
You may be eligible for a rebate through your private health insurance, depending on your policy. It is best to confirm directly with your private health insurance provider prior to attending your initial nutrition consultation. -
If you have had routine blood tests taken in the past 3 months, it would be helpful to bring along the test results to your initial consultation or email them through prior. This helps us have a greater insight into any nutrition deficiencies, blood glucose levels, or hormone imbalances. In addition, a list or photograph of any medications or supplements you are routinely taking can also be helpful, as it can be tricky to remember their names on the spot!
-
We support and treat the whole person, not just their body weight. We will never weigh you without your consent. If you don’t feel comfortable, just let us know. We can use alternative measures to monitor and evaluate your progress such as; energy levels, sleep quality, mood, blood pressure, blood test results, confidence, health and food literacy skills.
-
Depending on the support and accountability required, we recommend booking a review consultations for 2-6 weeks after your initial consultation.
-
Absolutely! We want you to feel as comfortable as possible at your consultation, so if that means bringing along a partner or carer, they are more than welcome. It can be extra helpful to bring along the person in the household who does the cooking, meal preparation and grocery shopping so that they can take home some tips and tricks to support you too!
